To celebrate taking over half the Market's 1st floor, this wood-beamed, leather-stooled, shameless drinkers' den is partying with live music, $2 Peronis, and $3 spiced-rum cocktails/pearl shooters. Standard bar offerings will include 12 or 32oz drafts (their own Fish Market brew, Sam seasonals, Widmer Hefeweizen...), plus pun-tails like the guava rum/guava puree/pineapple juice "Oh My Guava" Daiquiri and the Cruzan black cherry/raspberry liqueur/sour "Cruzan For A Black Cherry Bruzan", which makes good on its name the moment you tell someone what you're drinking.

Just arrived in DC, Alkemy's new Fall/Winter line somehow calls on "philosophy, science, and magic" to inspire slim-cut, edgily classy outerwear like a heavy wool gray number with two zip/button front pockets and an extra wide lapel, a down-filled, gray winter coat w/ black fur-trim collar, and a lighter, brown joint with matching front chest pockets and sleeves that zip off to reveal your huge guns, which suggests that their 4th inspiration is "fantasy".

Be Amazed: Pizzeria Paradiso's New Dupont Digs

Just moved into its new Dupont location, the sunny, brick-walled Paradiso has upped seating by half (85 seats; 25-seat patio), added (the roast lamb Panino Arrosto di Agnello; the buffalo mozz/Prosciutto di Parma Panino Grosso Caldo), and exploded its beer options: 12 rotating taps (including casks of Allagash Fluxus '09 and Clipper City Loose Cannon) and 120 bottles, from Belgians like Trois Pistoles & Chimay Cinq Cents, to bocks and pilseners like Allgauer Cambonator & Victory Prima Pils, to IPAs/ESBs like Lagunitas Hop Stoopid and Rogue Brutal Bitter -- exactly how you'll feel after they cut you off when you're only 9/120th's done.

This Oriole-orange T pays homage to the team's scraggly bearded, beer-bellied 70s-80s mascot and cult-hero, whose inspirational chants of "O-R-I-O-L-E-S" earned him special dugout privileges unfairly denied you, despite your equally zealous cries of "B-I-L-L-Y-R-I-P-K-E-N".

Caber Toss: VA Scottish Games
Sat Sept 5th and Sun Sept 6th; 5089 Tavern Road; The Plains, VA
Now too big and hairy for its old home/the month of July, the 36th annual Scot-fest moves to Labor Day weekend at VA's Great Meadow: two days of red-bearded revelry, including a massive Newcastle/Guinness pub tent, folk music, meat pies and lamb sausages, and a first-ever antique car show (Scottish affiliation unknown). As always, the highlight's watching top-ranked Highland Game athletes competing in 7 events, including the "stoneput", the pitchfork-wielding "sheaf toss", the "caber toss", and the "hammer toss", like the caber toss, except that contestants forgo kilts for the more traditional, sparkly parachute pants.
