The short-lived Casa Blanca -- run on Lemmon Ave by one of the Mia's clan -- just resurfaced in Oak Cliff with free 'ritas through Sept, , weekend menudo & caldo de res, and most of the original's best stuff, including complimentary tortilla soup w/ pasta shells, Jalapeno Pork Chops, and the lemon butter/green onion-sauteed chicken filet known as Gina's Favorite, who everyone says is super hot, but you can't quite get your head around.

The old-world Uptown boozist will be slinging $3 drink specials (for anything frozen, plus vodka/lemonade/Blue Moon "Summer Beer") and $2 hot dogs, with tunes provided by Rolling Stones tribute band Black and Blue, curiously named after a 1976 album many critics despised, but hey, they didn't have the benefit of $3 drinks.

The venerable vendor of all things UT has opened a Dallas outpost stocked with Bevo's Brand gourmet dips, branded whatnots from housewares to pet collars, and, of course, loads of clothing, including the "Green Longhorn Gear" collection -- though to maintain its endowment, a green UT'd have to sell a lot of organic tees.

This Austin streaming-music site helpfully allows you to listen without interruption to up-and-coming bands as you browse for better up-and-comers; current content's heavy w/ alt-country, indie rock, and experimental pop from places like Austin, Seattle, and...Boise -- whose citizens all believe they inspired Joe Satriani's "Mystical Potato Head Groove Thang", which is adorable, because they didn't.
