Adding the food game to that list, Ledge Kitchen & Drinks. From a former construction guy whose transition to the restaurant biz was smoothed by years of dealing with the ins and outs of contract work, this new Lower Mills bar/grill serves up hearty modern American in a simple but crisply decorated grey/dark beige 21-table dining room w/ sectioned off 18-seat bar, exposed stone walls, and a mammoth landscaped stone-floored 100-seat garden patio with exclusive full bar, and separate areas for dining and cocktails -- because everyone remembers what happened last time dining came in with her new boyfriend. Meaty steak and seafood deliciousness includes an 18-ounce bone-in ribeye doused in a Cabernet rosemary glaze; lightly pan seared sea scallops dripped w/ brown honey butter with mushroom ravioli and sautéed garlic spinach; and Mike's Mac and Cheese baked up w/ scallions, sweet corn, and your choice of lobster, pulled chicken, or short ribs -- which is mean, because it wasn't a choice so much as a genetic certainty. LKD also fixes up sammies like the Broiled Crabcake slathered w/ Creole mustard aioli; and flatbread pizzas like the Grilled Beef Tenderloin (sweet onions and sharp cheddar covered w/ a garlic white sauce), and the avocado crème fraiche-covered Lobster and Goat Cheese topped w/ tomatoes and country bacon, which you eat really loudly when your friends aren't around and just like it because your dad always ate it in the car growing up, not that you should have to defend yourself, frankly. If you're just out gossiping with the ladies over small bites on the patio, starters include a braised short rib arancini in an organic coffee sauce, and there's an extensive drink menu boasting 16 beers (Newcastle, Shipyard), 57 wines (Wild Rock, Cakebread), and an assortment of specialty cocktails -- have a few, and you'll be looking for any excuse to show off your skill with the ol' ballpeen.
