Coo's Sports Bar

Opens tomorrow, 4pm: 822 N Broad St, at Parrish; North Philadelphia; 267.318.7689

It's always nice to watch local teams at the ol' watering hole, but how can you claim to be a real sports fan if you don't know if the Adelaide Crows have what it takes to fend off the Geelong Cats in some sport you've never heard of that's probably only played in prisons? Not taking any chances when it comes to covering all your teams, Coo's Sports Bar.

Thrillist - Coo's Sports Bar
From a couple of old sports buds who met while coaching wrestling/ringworm-prevention at Neshaminy HS, Coo's is a high-ceilinged, exposed brick-heavy, 150-seat restobar boasting 32 plasmas spread throughout a wine & chocolate-toned front room anchored by a 60-stool rectangle bar (which features a regulation shuffleboard table), and a rear lounge area with a dedicated spirits bar, because they know you love booo-rboun. The menu's vast and adventurous for a sports bar, starting off with apps like beer-battered shrimp tempura, grilled pizza (specials/toppings rotate daily), habanero-fueled Dragon Fire Wings, and curried Raj Mussels, proud holder of 12 consecutive India's Strongest Man titles. Larger plates break down into "Minor Leaguers", including the Monte Cristo-esque Hawk served w/ warm maple syrup, and the provolone-smothered Pittsburgh Strip District Sandwich w/ pastrami or kielbasa topped w/ coleslaw & fries; and "Major Leaguers" like The World Series, pork roulade stuffed w/ mushrooms in Dijon cream sauce, and The Super Bowl, an Italian Cioppino stew loaded with seafood, sausage, and Donovan McNabb's hangover.

On the sudsy side, 21 taps pour everything from locals like Yards Brawler & Sly Fox Pikeland Pils, to virtual strangers at the sportsbar like Radeberger, Franziskaner, Chimay White Triple -- which any true sports fan knows wins the fifth rubber of a cricket match, duh.

Click here to view the entire menu and play your own game of "Name the Local Reference Source" as you scan through the dishes at CoosSportsBar.com
