After taking over someone else's business, you've got to clear out their outmoded junk and refocus -- otherwise, you'll never get rid of Dan Marino. Taking over with authority, the guys at Transit Bicycle Co.
After buying out West Village Bicycles, the owners of two-doors-down sneaker haven Adikt decided to ruthlessly unload the vast majority of the inventory, and concentrate on stripped-down, fixed-hub, single-speed urban commuter bikes. The new flavors include Dallas exclusives such as UK's Charge and GT's blacked-out 2009 Gutterball, plus concrete jungle-serving lines from Bianchi, Cannondale, Cinelli, Schwinn, and more; meanwhile, forked/not-forked frames include Pake, Surly, and Kazane, and Brooklyn Machine Works' "Gangsta Track", no doubt inspired by OG heptathlete Jackie Joyner-Kerseazy-e. The shop also stocks sweet hardware, like Phil Wood and Velocity wheels/hubs in various anodized colors, or emblazoned with everything from skulls/crossbones to faux woodgrain; their service department can also "urbanize" existing bikes, having recently transformed a derailleur/cable-addled Schwinn Peloton road racer into a superlight city-rider with titanium hubs and carbon fiber fork...so just imagine what they can do with your Huffy Pro Thunder (carbon fiber basket!?).
Transit's already hosting twice-weekly group rides and plans on staging alley cat/scavenger hunt-like races soon; to help the cause, a shop regular's commenced Monday barhopping jaunts from nearby Mockingbird Station -- when people ask if you're okay after crashing, just tell them you're Super Duper.
