New Menu: The Cantina at Distrito

Monday marks the debut of the Cantina on the first floor of Iron Chef-bound Jose Garces's University City outpost, delivering of signature Mexican plates topping out at a paltry ten clams, including meat-/seafood-stuffed quesadillas; chicken and lump crab enchiladas; and tacos packed with adobo chicken, carne asada & pulled pork. Imbibables include $2 Tecates, $3 margaritas, and a bevy of $6-and-under cocktails, like the grape vodka & lime Evil Ways, and the Maria Maria, whose mix of vodka, tequila & amaretto already has you seeing double.

Upping the stakes in Philly's suddenly fierce battle for cocktail supremacy, APO's mixology shamans're unveiling a revamped list tonight, with 14 new treats over three categories: Elixirs, like the Bluecoat gin/akvavit/absinthe combo Calypso's Secret; Classics Reinterpreted, including La Ultima Palabra, with Milagro Reposado tequila, green chartreuse, & Luxardo Maraschino; and concoctions only available on the second floor lounge and roofdeck, including the Zizou's Revenge, featuring a delicately balanced mixture of Torani Amer, white wine, and Jaguar Shark.

Sunday's adoption fundraiser's cleverly disguised as a BBQ blowout where $25 gets you all you can eat/drink from an array of local bars and restos, including ribs from El Camino Real, paella from Bar Ferdinand, and crab claws from Standard Tap. DJs and five local bands -- including the inimitable Black Landlord -- let the funk flow all day as suds're poured by local breweries like Philadelphia Brewing Company, Manayunk, Bishops Collar, and Nodding Head -- yours would be too, if you heard the bishop joke we just came up with.

Thank you Craigslist: some visionary's selling his customized '89 Caprice, with Eagles logos painted on the hood and trunk, butterfly doors that flip upwards to reveal a green & white upholstery littered with six TV screens, all perched on a lifted chassis sporting 24" rims. Although asking $22k "cash", the Illinois-based seller's entertaining reasonable offers, even inviting Vick, McNabb, and their teammates to "call anytime". Anytime.
