| | Thrillist Chicago Wednesday August 26, 2009 The List Hump this Bring Your Own: Chilam Balam 3023 N Broadway, btw Wellington and Barry; Lakeview; 773.296.6901 Opening Thursday, this BYOB from a chef who cut his teeth at two noted grills (Frontera, Adobo) is doing farm-to-table Mexican in a cozy, brightly colored basement adorned with South-of-the-Border folk art. Small plates including items like Oaxacan Pasilla-glazed pork ribs with sweet plantains and crema, halibut ceviche spiced up with habanero, and handmade summer squash quesadillas grace the opening menu, which figures to continually evolve based on the season, like an edible character from Ugly Betty. Eye gorge the entire menu, including the August specials, at ChilamBalamChicago.com Boobies: Rollin' Outta Here Naked Saturdays in Sept at 10pm at the Gorilla Tango Theater: 1919 N Milwaukee Ave; Wicker Park; 773.598.4549 The ladies of Vaudezilla have combined two guaranteed guy faves --stripteases and The Big Lebowski -- into a wild burlesque variety show that features a number of the film's favorite characters showing you the goods, including no-brainers like Maude and Bunny Lebowski, plus less expected (but nonetheless oddly erotic) appearances from a marmot-toting nihilist, Walter Sobchak, and The Jesus, caught exposing (her)self, but thankfully not to eight-year-olds, dude. Ogle some of the ladies you'll be seeing at Vaudezilla.com, and get your hands on tickets at GorillaTango.com
Make Your Own: Falafill 3202 N Broadway, at Belmont; Lakeview; 773.525.0052 A concept inspired by a similar quick service spot one of the owners encountered in Amsterdam, Falafill, opening tomorrow, serves up the good stuff for which it's named in a sunny storefront further cheerified with bright green/orange walls and orange stools all centered around a central stainless steel condiment bar. Head there to load up your falafel 'n pita (or in a bowl) with a roughly 25-strong, ever-changing array of fixin's from various pickled fruits 'n veggies (mango, ginger, turnip), to flavor-packed sauces (jalapeno, harissa), to more elaborate concoctions like tomato chutney and a salad of roasted beets, which if dropped properly, may become ill.
